Textamerica selected to provide camera phone moblog platform for The San Diego Union-Tribune’s Web site, SignOnSanDiego.com, says Textamerica
Moblog provider textamerica.com is pleased to announce that it has been selected to provide the moblog platform for SignOnSanDiego.com, the Web site of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

SignOnSanDiego.com will initially use the platform to gather camera phone images of news events taken by their readers and post them directly to the Internet.

“With the San Diego wildfires and the East Coast blackout last year, we already have proven that moblogs represent an excellent vehicle for gathering unique images of major breaking news events” said textamerica founder Chris Hoar.

You can see the moblogs for those events at http://blackout.textamerica.com and http://fire.textamerica.com.

“We believe that moblogs will play an increasingly vital role for the news media, and that this move will put The San Diego Union-Tribune at the forefront of that movement,” Hoar said.

Textamerica is pleased to announce that the platform to be used by The San Diego Union-Tribune is now available for your organization. For more information please visit http://www.textamerica.com/Pages/enterprise-b.asp

A moblog is a ‘mobile weblog’ comprised of images contributed via a mobile device equipped with a camera phone.

The San Diego Union-Tribune, the county’s oldest employer, has a daily circulation of nearly 360,000 and Sunday sales of nearly 445,000. The 135-year-old newspaper serves San Diego County and portions of Imperial Valley, Riverside and Orange counties. In addition, the Union-Tribune publishes Enlace, a Spanish-language news publication serving San Diego’s substantial Hispanic population, and operates SignOnSanDiego.com. With 25 million page views and more than 1 million unique users each month, SignOnSanDiego.com is the leading online source for local news, entertainment information and classifieds in San Diego.

Textamerica is a privately held company based in San Diego, California.

StumbleUpon isn’t a search engine – instead it helps you find stuff you didn’t know to look for. It’s an innovative idea with a great community behind it – part search tool, part social network. Give it a try… along with firefox it really has helped me rediscover the web.
